Welcome to Reception
A big, warm welcome to all the children who have started their Reception year!
We have had a lovely few days getting to know to everyone and making many new friends. The children have enjoyed getting to know their classrooms and the other learning environments. We have had tours to ensure they know about all the areas they can access and, importantly, where the toilets are!
We have been reading the story ‘Owl Babies’ by Martin Waddell and the children have loved joining in with the repeated refrains. We have also learnt the signs for ‘owl’, ‘mummy’ and ‘daddy’.
Over the year, we will be learning about the different forms of narrative that will help us to tell and write stories. This term, we are looking at ‘who’. We will be learning ‘who’ is in our class and the other classes and we will be exploring ‘who’ the characters are in all the stories we will be reading.
Please find the home learning for next week attached. We will be reading the story ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’.
A few reminders:
- Please could you check that your child’s uniform and any bags are named.
- We are approaching that time of year where we all have lots of sniffles. Therefore, we would greatly apprecitae a donation of a box of tissues.
- We are asking for £3 contributions towards buying ingredients for cooking. These can be made via the School Gateway app.
For your information:
From Monday, we will start the Reception Baseline Assessments (RBA). The RBA is ‘a short, interactive and practical assessment of your child’s early literacy, communication, language and mathematics skills when they begin school, using materials that most children of your child’s age will be familiar with. It is statutory for all schools from September 2021.’ More information about the RBA can be found using the following weblink: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1004560/2021_Information_for_parents_reception_baseline_assessment.pdf
