Nursery – The Enormous Turnip

This week we have enjoyed the traditional tale ‘The Enormous Turnip’. In the story a farmer plants some seeds and grows turnips, one of the turnips grows and grows and grows until it is so big the farmer cannot pull it out of the ground! The farmer then asks many characters to help him and they all pull until eventually it pops out of the ground.

We thoroughly enjoyed the story and we compared many versions, some were very similar and some were quite different. We have continued our narrative work and were very good at remembering who grew the turnip and who helped the farmer.

Our focus ‘superhero’ rule this week has been ‘sharing toys’. We have all been very co-operative when working collaboratively and enjoyed many turn-taking and sharing games this week. We also talked about being a superhero at ‘tidy up time’ and how it is much easier if we all help!

Linking with our vegetable theme, we have talked about healthy eating and the importance of eating a balanced diet. We even practised our chopping skills and chopped up some different vegetables, which was an enjoyable challenge!

Please have a look at the attached home learning to find some fun activities that link to each area of your child’s learning. We would love to hear from you about your child’s home learning. Please could you email these to us at: fshomelearning@exwickheights.devon.sch.uk

A few reminders:

  • We are asking for £3 contributions towards buying ingredients for cooking. These can be made via the School Gateway app.

We are collecting recycled materials for our junk modelling station. Ideally we would like small boxes, washed yoghurt pots and small containers. Please can we ask that any recycled material that previously had nut products inside do not come in due to allergies that we have in school.  Please could the items be brought in a bag and labelled, if possible, with the date they are brought in. Thank you :).
