Reception Week 11 – The Colour Monster

This week we read the story ‘The Colour Monster’ by Anna Llenas.  One day, Colour Monster wakes up feeling very confused. His emotions are all over the place; he feels angry, happy, calm, sad and scared all at once! To help him, a little girl shows him what each feeling means through colour. This story encouraged a good discussion about what we do if we are feeling sad or angry in school.

  • In letters and sounds this week we have learnt the phoneme z, and the digraphs qu and ch (2 letters together that make 1 sound). We have also been reading sentences and spelling words.
  • In Maths the children have been deepening their understanding of 5 as a quantity by linking the number itself to the 5 fingers on one hand. The children have also begun to explore ways to represent numbers to 5 using both their fingers and a die frame.
  • Each day this week we have been learning our Nativity songs with actions which the children have really enjoyed and have shown great enthusiasm! Keep up the great work Reception!
