Nursery – Avocado Baby

What a fantastic story we enjoyed as our focus text this week, ‘Avocado Baby’ by John Burningham. In the story, The Hargraves family have a baby that they want to grow up to be big and strong, however, he hardly eats anything! One day Mrs Hargraves finds an avocado in the fruit bowl, which the baby eats and then becomes so strong he can do all sorts of crazy things! The children found the story hilarious and it sparked lots of conversation about the things the baby could do in the story and the things babies really do.

Thinking about babies, we talked about the human lifecycle this week, linking to the work we have completed the last few weeks on plant lifecycles and butterfly lifecycles. The children noticed many differences in the pictures of them from their first day in nursery and what they look like now! We talked about how people change throughout their life from baby to being elderly.

We have been observing both our bean plants and our class caterpillars closely this week; our beanstalks have grown very tall which we were very excited about, and our caterpillars have now built their chrysalises! We hope they will emerge soon as beautiful butterflies.

In our cooking activity this week, we baked some apple and oat muffins. The children were brilliant ay listening to the instructions in order to bake them and we thought they were so tasty when we ate them for our snack time.

Have a look at the attached home learning (for the week beginning 4th July) to find some fun activities that link to each area of your child’s learning. We would love to hear from you about your child’s home learning. Please could you email these to us at: fshomelearning@exwickheights.devon.sch.uk.
