School Dinner Menu

Usually our outside caterers, EduCatering, would annotate each meal on their menu with symbols to indicate what allergens maybe contained within each meal. Unfortunately, because of a delay at their end, they have not yet been able to do this. Therefore for your information we are also sending you their allergen matrix. If you have any concerns for your child about, for example gluten or fish, any allergens we would kindly ask you to look through this before making any meal bookings.

We are very fortunate at Exwick Heights Primary School that we can offer homemade, fresh food, every day. When serving up meals, our priority has to be individual dietary requirements e.g. vegetarian and in particular allergies. Therefore, we are very sorry that we are unable to accommodate changes to the menu e.g. no beans or no tomatoes. We feel that there is sufficient choice on each day that if your child does not like a particular item then you can select a different meal for them. Alternatively, they can simply leave an item if they don’t like it. Thank you for your support with this.

Fruit
Under a DfE scheme KS1 children are provided with free fruit during the day, so they have an opportunity to eat a healthy snack. The children in years 3-6 are encouraged to bring fruit for a mid-morning snack.

Drinks
Children are encouraged to bring water to school, in a proper water bottle, for use during the day. Alternatively, water is available throughout the day. If your child brings a drink to school to have with their lunch, it is essential it is non-fizzy.

Packed Lunches
Please make sure that any lunch box or bag is NAMED (no tins or glass bottles please).

We are a nut free school

We would also appreciate it if you did not give your child anything containing nuts. We have an increasing number of children in school with severe nut allergies.

Please do not give your child too much food. He or she will bring home any left over food, so please adjust the amount accordingly. We encourage healthy eating at school, consequently we do not allow children to bring fizzy drinks and sweets including chocolate bars (biscuit based bars are permitted, eg Penguin etc.)

School Meals
School meals are prepared on the premises. They are of a high standard and we try to encourage as many children to stay as possible. There is a daily choice of a main meal, a vegetarian alternative or a jacket potato.

Please note that all meals (paid or free) must be booked online using the My Child At School (MCAS) app. Please contact the school office for more details.

Free School Meals

Some children at Exwick Heights may be eligible to receive income-related Free School Meals. Parents and carers can check whether their child is eligible for Free School Meals on the Devon County Council Citizens Portal or call the Education Helpline on 0345 155 1019.

Please note, if your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, they are all eligible for a free school meal under the Universal Free School Meals Scheme. However, we encourage parents/carers to check eligibility for income-related free school meals as eligibility would further our Pupil Premium funding
