Reception Week 13 – Lost and Found

This week we read the story ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers. It is about a boy who finds a penguin on his doorstep. The boy decides the penguin must be lost and tries to return him. So, the boy decides to take the penguin home himself, and they set out in his row boat on a journey to the South Pole.

  • In letters and sounds this week we have been practising all the phonemes we have learnt so far and have read a variety of words with a ‘s’ at the end – some that make a ‘sss’ sound and others that make a ‘zzz’ sound e.g. zips, ducks, bags and cups. We have also been learning how to read tricky words such as we, me and be.
  • In maths time this week we have been learning about ‘wholes’ and ‘parts’. By investigating our own bodies and familiar toys such as puzzles we have been finding out that whole things are often made up of smaller parts and that a whole is, therefore, bigger than its parts.
  • We hope that you managed to see one of our nativity performances this week. We are so proud of your children’s amazing achievements, well done Reception!
